Spell Bee Contest


HDFC Life in association with The Times of India and Casio had conducted a Spelling Contest on January 18, 2012. Many students of class 8 and 9 successfully participated in the same and 15 students were shortlisted for the city finals.

Essay competition




Siddhanth Hazra of IV A has won a silver medal under junior category for Essay competition organized by the reputed Chennai based organization “Schoolsindia”.
Earlier he was adjudged the Ist runners up Creative Contest held in Aug-Sep 2011 organized and sponsored by the reputed “Pears” company. He received beautiful shield and a colourful certificate highlighting his achievement.

Graduation day 2012







The theme of this year was 'Chisel your own destiny’. The ceremony was marked by the procession of 162 young graduates, pledge and prayers, and melodious songs by the school choir. The students went down memory lane and were deeply touched by a video presentation depicting their journey at Carmel.
 Dr. Ali Khwaja was the chief Guest for this occasion; He urged students to compete within themselves and urged the parents to encourage the students to pursue the career of their choice.
 On this occasion, the Principal, Mrs. Dorothy Menezes advised the students that they were could chisel their own destiny with hard, disciplined efforts and actions. Valedictory address was given by the Administrator of the school, Mr. Roshan Menezes who reminded the students to stay focused for the forth coming examinations and prepare well with much needed verve. 

Global Leadership Summit











Shibani Hegde , Khushal Jhajharia of Class 9 & Abhishek Jayakumar of Class 8 along with their teacher coordinator Bindu Jayakumar attended the first ever Young Citizen’s Global Summit organised by the British Council at SAI International School, Bhubaneshwar between  26th-29th January, 2012.
The event was inaugurated by Shri Naveen Patnaik, honourable Chief Minister of Orissa and had a variety of modules ranging from Theatre, Communication Skills, 100 words, Youth Leadership. Fine arts, Big Dance to Tony Blair Faith Foundation & BBC WC with facilitators from U.K. 100 schools all over India participated in the Summit and there was a lot of camaraderie and exchange of ideas & views. The four day summit also included workshops by dignitaries like Mr. Subroto Bagchi(Vice Chairman-Mindtree), Mr. B.K Patnaik ( Chief Secretary, Odisha) followed by cultural programmes & a visit to the Konark temple & Sand sculpting festival at Chandrabagh Beach. The valedictory function was graced by the Governor of Odisha. The students took back with them a lot of memories, friendships & the importance of being a global citizen and ideas to start the Global Citizen Club in their respective schools.

Last Parent Teacher Meeting will be held on 25-2-2012 and report cards for A+, A, B+ Grades will be issued between 9.30 am – 10.30 am and for B, C, C+, D Grades between 10.45 am – 12 noon
Work sheet for primary classes ( I to IV) will be starting from 15th to 23rd February.

Taekwondo

















The Taekwondo Association of Karnataka conducted the 1st Inter Club Taekwondo Championship 2012 –The Carmel Cup on 21st, 22nd January, 2012 at Carmel Playground.  Students from various parts of Karnataka  such as Karwar, Tumkur, Mysore, Chitradurga, Bangalore participated in the same. Carmel Taekwondo Centre School won the first place in the event Breaking .

Republic Day

















The 63rd Republic Day was celebrated with much grandeur having had Dr.N.Girish an alumnus of the school, presently an Associate Professor at NIMHANS as the chief guest. A conversation to bring out the importance of the Republic Day and the vibrant dances  to depict the culture of different Indian States were the highlights of the programme.

HDFC Spell Bee  contest in association with the Times NIE  was conducted on January 18, 2012 for the students of class 8 & 9 out of which 15 students have been selected for the inter school level.

TIMES NIE Quiz

















The Times NIE Quiz competition was conducted on January 19, 2012 hosted by Ms. Poonam from NIE. The winners of the quiz were: I prize-Suhan Prabhu & Kushal J of Class9, II prize VigneshS. P &, Kiran N of Class 9 and  III prize  Bhargav G & Bibin Mathew of Class 9.

Schools India

















Schools India under the aegis of HOPE Foundation conducted Essay and Art interschool competition.

The following students have won prizes at the All India Level. 

Essay:
Vidya D Shankar of 6C won the   3rd prize.
Lavina G Khandelwal of 2D, Siddhanth Hazra of 4A & Varun Rao of 4A won  a  Silver medal.  Suvan B.U of 2A 7 Srivatsan of 7C won Bronze medals.

Art:
Manish N of 2B has won the II Prize. Likith K.M of 3B & Chandan M of 5C have won silver medals.
Rishab S of 1D, Harsha R of 2D, Yashash J of 8C have won Bronze medals while Adarsh Chhajer of 2D has won the consolation prize.
















Aishwarya B. P of 7D has won a I Prize in ‘Janapada Geethe’ & III Prize in ‘Bhavageethe’ music competition conducted by Akhila Karnataka Music Academy.












Rotary Club of Indiranagar organized the 18th swimming competition for non-medalist on January 4th at Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre. More than 160 children belonging to 11 clubs all over Karnataka participated in the 32 events of the competition. Bhavana R of III C  won III prize in Butterfly and Breaststroke style in swimming.













As part of its 38th year of its launch Camlin Colours organised an All India Colour contest.  Prajith K, Jinal M Jain & Amrith Priya was awarded the best entries under Group D   whereas Shristi V of 7D was awarded the best entry under Group E.

Dr. Ahmed, a psychotherapist, mind potential trainer and a certified NLP practitioner, Founder of Mind Masters recently had a four day session for students from class 5 to 10 exposing them to his highly acclaimed technology aimed at increasing memory and concentration power and increasing reading speed. The parents were also oriented with tips for helping the students deal with stress of examination and changing lifestyle. The last day of the session saw a demonstration by the students displaying the techniques they had mastered. Rashmitha.R of class 10 was able to recall 201 words in the right sequence which was appreciated by the parents, staff and students alike.

Krutagama Divakar & Dikshit .S won the III Prize in the inter school quiz conducted by DHiE. The prizes were given away by Dr. Paul.F. Meekin, England born education expert,  in a presentation ceremony at Hotel Atria on January 7.

Christmas Celebrations






Christmas season brings a lot of cheer to Carmel year after year, bringing in a lot of fun, banter and bonhomie while the staff and students partake in the celebrations. This year the staff staged a meaningful tableau depicting the Ten Commandments given by God to Moses, with varied and valuable words from Moses. The birth of the son of God –Jesus was also depicted. On this occasion the Principal of the school, Mrs. Dorothy Menezes urged  one and all to cherish peace and goodwill in our minds and hearts, be forgiving, tolerant and be a good example to experience the   real spirit of Christmas always within us.

Disney Princesses have always inspired fairytale dreams and are loved by kids and parents alike. Dreams came true for three Cinderella fans of Carmel High, Manavi .M, Siddhi Surana of class 3D and Bhavana Parekh of class 4 as the Disney Princess Cinderella came alive at Mantri Square, Malleswaram  on December 21st,performing a waltz with her Prince Charming on their first visit to India. The students got an opportunity to live their own princess experience with a makeover and participate in exciting activities and bag Disney products. It was a memorable evening for the kids as their dreams changed to reality. 
Buoyancee  Balothsava Competitions were conducted in the month of November in various events. Siddharth Rao of class 6C has won the I Prize in Bhagawad Gita Chanting, Swarupa of class 4, I Prize in Solo Dance and Nikhil of class 6B, II Prize in singing.
Sanjana Manjunath, Natasha.M, Chaitanya, Ashika Hubli, Shreyas.A of class 6 and Aishwarya B.P of Class 7 won the second place at Taluk level in Kannada Patriotic group song as part of the Pratibha Karanji Competition. Varun Shankar and Mayur of class 7 won the I Prize in Quiz. 
Sanjana Manjunath, Natasha.M, Chaitanya, Ashika Hubli, Shreyas.A of class 6 and Aishwarya B.P of Class 7 won the second place at Taluk level in Kannada Patriotic group song as part of the Pratibha Karanji Competition. Varun Shankar and Mayur of class 7 won the I Prize in Quiz. 
In commemoration with the International Year Of Chemistry, The Rajajinagar Composite P.U. College had conducted an International School Science Exhibition Competition on December 9, 2011 Carmel High Students participated in the same. Kiran. R.S. and Shubankar Bera  both of Class 8D won a consolation prize and a certificate each. 


Soaring high with kites
As part of the Hoopla Club activity students from classes 1 to 4 were exposed to the combined study of science, art, and culture with this dynamic art of kite making. At the end of the day each one tried to outdo the other in the art of flying kites

A Philanthropic Gesture
Carmel High School has always believed in community service and leaves no stone unturned to indulge in charity. This year on December 3, 2011, the inmates of the Bosco Home for the orphans and the destitute were given Rice and Dal.
The Sports Day for the Primary and the Nursery section was conducted from December 5 to December 9, 2011. Students participated in events like running, picking up dumbbells, potato race, skipping, sack race, island walk, ring balance and were enthusiastically cheered by the spectators. 

Philately
Swetha.S of 7B has won a silver medal and Vineeth of 7C has won a bronze medal in the Philately competition conducted by the Stamps of India National Exhibition.The school has also been acknowledged with a trophy and medal for encouraging the students in Philately.
